goldengoall.com is written and maintained by one editor. It carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no paid placements, and no hotel has been asked to review its own entry before publication. What follows is the whole of the method.
How the hotels were chosen
A hotel is included when its building, its sleeping arrangement or its setting can be described from evidence rather than from atmosphere. The four categories were fixed first, and entries were then found to fill them. Nothing was added because it was fashionable, and nothing was left out because it was.
Which sources are used
The hotel or chain website comes first, since it is the only source for room types, shared facilities and seasonal opening. Mapping services are used for position, approach and distance. Press coverage is used for the history of a building. Where sources disagree, the narrower statement is kept and the wider one dropped.
What is not here
No prices, no stars, no marks out of ten, no ordering by preference and no comparisons between one hotel and another. No reservation buttons and no links to booking services. No invented history, no invented faults and no promises about weather, availability or how a stay will feel.
Reading the winter section
Buildings of ice and packed snow are seasonal structures. They are cut and moulded for one winter, used while the cold holds, and lost when it breaks; the following year the operator builds again from new material, so the plan and the carvings are never the same twice. Exact opening dates are not printed here, because they move with the weather. Where an operator also keeps buildings that work all year, the entry says so. Access to a mountain site depends on conditions on the day. Ask the operator.
Corrections
Each entry carries the month it was last read against its sources. If a detail is wrong or has gone out of date, write and it will be checked and corrected. Notes about buildings that have closed or changed hands are particularly useful. The address is on the contact page.
